Furniture Lifting: When It Won’t Fit Up the Stairs
Some items simply can’t go through a staircase or a narrow doorway. We lift them up the outside of the building and in through a window or balcony, and apply for the council permit for you.
How external lifting works
Many Maltese apartments have narrow entrances and staircases that sofas, fridge freezers and wardrobes can’t pass. A furniture lift (hoist) raises the item up the outside of the building, or lowers it, through a window or balcony.
Lifting is added to your TheVanApp move: the driver and helper bring the items, and our lifting partner raises or lowers them at the pickup, the drop-off, or both.
An external lift in Malta needs a permit from the local council. We apply for the permit for you, so everything is in order on moving day.

Lifting, a permit, or both
Tell us what you need at each address. We arrange the rest.
Lifting
External lifting of bulky furniture and appliances through a window or balcony, by specialist equipment and trained operators.
Best for
Items that can’t go up the stairs or in the lift, on any floor.
Council permit
Our team applies for the permit with the local council, covering the road or pavement space the lift needs, and tells you once it is approved.
Best for
Any lift that uses the street or pavement.
Both ends
An item can need lifting at the pickup and at the drop-off, for example from a 3rd floor to a 4th floor. One booking covers both.
